Dr. Ngatia is an Assistant Professor and a Soil Biogeochemist. She completed her PhD
in Soil Biogeochemistry from the University of Florida. Her research interests focus
on eutrophication and climate change mitigation, nutrient dynamics and heavy metals
contamination. Her research areas include; wetlands, forests, water reservoirs and
agricultural lands. She utilizes 13C and 31P Nuclear Magnetic Resources (NMR), isotopes
and other biogeochemical parameters to address scientific questions of global concern.
Student mentorship and training is a key component of her work. Dr. Ngatia research
encompasses a local, national and international scope. She has previously conducted
research in African savanna and South Florida Everglades, Ocala National Forest and
Oklahoma water reservoirs. She is currently conducting research in Apalachicola National
Forest wetlands and Chipola National Forest. Dr. Ngatia is interested in global networking,
collaborations and partnerships in solving the most pressing environmental and agricultural
problems.
