Application Timeline for High School Students
September through January 3rd of their senior year	-Apply on-line to Florida A&M University (FAMU) and to the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences (CAFS) at the same time at  http://admissions.famu.edu/ ; Application Fee is $35; - Based on their qualifications, students will be admitted into FAMU
October through January of their senior year	Must complete and have a validated (i.e. submission of verified documents) Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in FAMU’s Office of Financial Aid, prior to February 1st
January 3rd	DEADLINE for being ADMITTED into FAMU; Students must pay the Admissions Deposit
February 1st through March 31st	- Short-listing of CAFS Scholarship Semi-Finalists begins - CAFS identifies scholarship semi-finalists; Students are told of their semi-finalist scholarship status and invited to complete CAFS scholarship application forms
March - April	- Award CAFS Scholarships, based on the availability of funds - Scholars apply for on-campus housing (preferably CAFS LLC);
April	Pay housing deposit by April 1st
June – July	Attend FAMU’s New Student Orientation to finalize all paperwork; (Mandatory attendance; Scholars will update their Financial Aid files, housing, meal plans, health, and residency files)
August	CAFS New Student Orientation; mandatory attendance

TIMELINE For College/Transfer Students for Fall /Spring Semester Admission
	-    Must have earned an associate of arts degree from a Florida State or Community College, with at least a 3.0 FAMU recalculated GPA at the time of degree conferral date -     Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, as a Transfer student
February 1st	Must complete and have a validated (i.e. submission of verified documents) Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in FAMU’s Office of Financial Aid
April 1st for fall; October 1st for spring	FAMU must have your Admissions Letter of Acceptance Admissions application submission for the upcoming fall semester
June/ July or December/January	Attend FAMU’s New Student Orientation to finalize all paperwork; (Mandatory attendance; Scholars will update their Financial Aid files, housing, meal plans, health, and residency files)

 _{1. The Awards}

The CAFS scholarships are competitive, and they are awarded annually to students, majoring in the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences (CAFS) at Florida A&M University (FAMU).  Each partial or full award may only be applied to tuition and associated tuition fees, and/or room and board, and/or books and educational supplies for the semester of the scholarship award.  Scholars will receive awards minus the sum of Bright Futures, the National Merit® award, or any other scholarships and financial awards, and they may not exceed their cost of attendance, as determined by the FAMU Financial Aid Office.

This Scholarship Program, which is open to graduating high school seniors, and college students, may make one-time annual awards, or it may make awards, which may be renewed each year for a maximum of four (4) consecutive semesters for college transfer students or eight (8) consecutive semesters for First-Time-in-College (FTIC) freshmen, contingent upon satisfactory academic performance, compliance with the scholarship policies, and normal academic progress toward the bachelor's degree in food and agricultural sciences in CAFS.  Awards are not made during the summer terms.

 _{2.  General Eligibility}

        To be eligible for the Scholarship Program, a student must:

• Be a U.S. citizen
• Have earned a standard U.S. high school diploma or its equivalency
• Have at least a 3.00 recalculated (by FAMU Admissions) Core Academic Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale for high school graduates, or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for college students
• Have a score of 1,080 or higher on the SAT; or a composite score of 21 or higher on the ACT (for incoming FTICs, only)
• Have been accepted for admission by FAMU as a high school graduate, entering as a first-time-in-college freshman, or be a current college or transfer student attending a university or state college
• Must enroll in one of the majors offered by CAFS, with the intention of pursuing a career in the food and agricultural sciences
• Demonstrate leadership and community service
• Submit an official transcript with the school seal and the signature of the appropriate authorized official, except if you are a FAMU student already
• Submit a signed application (original signature only)

 _{3. Application Instructions}

Only completed application packages, submitted and postmarked by the stated deadline, will be considered. All application materials must be submitted in one application package. Complete application packages must include the following:

• Signed and dated application, including the signature of a parent or guardian, if the applicant is under the age of 18, and a Completed Privacy Act Advisory Statement and Release Form
• Completed Biographical Questionnaire
• Current résumé
• High School Counselor’s Assessment Report, and official test scores in a sealed envelope (for high school graduates only)
• High School Teacher’s Assessment Report in a sealed envelope (for high school graduates only)
• Submit the most recent official transcript with the school seal with the signature of an authorized school official, except if you are a FAMU student already
• Submit a 500- to 800-word essay on the topic, The Importance of The Food and Agricultural Sciences Industry in Today’s World, and How I Envision Making a Difference as a Graduate of One of These Disciplines

_{4. Selection Criteria for the CAFS Scholarships Program:}

 Must have earned a standard U.S. high school diploma or its equivalency (unless the student completes a home education program, or earns a high school diploma from a non-U.S. high school while living with a parent on military or public service assignment from the U.S.);

• Be a U.S. citizen
• Be admitted to FAMU with at least a 3.00 recalculated (by FAMU Admissions) Core Academic Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale
• Have Preferred Test Scores of 1,080 or more on the SAT, or a composite score of 21 or more on the ACT

2. Complete and have a validated (i.e. submission of verification documents) Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in FAMU’s Office of Financial Aid, prior to February 1.
3. Complete the Biographical Questionnaire
4. Submit a 500- to 800-word essay, describing the applicant’s interest and intent to pursue a career in the food and agricultural sciences
5. Demonstrate leadership and community service
6. Submit two letters of recommendation - one from the applicant’s High School Teacher, and one from the Guidance Counselor with his/her original signature in a sealed envelope
7. Submit a signed (original signature only) and dated scholarship application of the guardian, if the applicant is under the age of 18
8. Submit a signed (original signature only) and dated scholarship application, if the applicant is aged 18 or older
9. APPLICATION DEADLINE: All application packages must be completed, submitted and postmarked by the stated deadline.
10.  Must enroll in a minimum of 30 credit hours per academic year over a four-year period.

• Scholars will not be renewed, if they do not comply with scholarship policies and deadlines.
•   Awards are not made in the summer semesters.

     For automatic renewal, an award recipient must comply with the policies of the 1890 Scholarships Program, and the criteria stated below:

1. Must enroll in and pass a minimum of 30 credit hours per academic year over the four-year period for FTICs or two-year period for College/Transfer Scholars
2. Must not drop or withdraw from a course(s) after the official university drop and add period for that semester has ended (see the current University Registrar’s Calendar)
3. Must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better at the end of each semester.
4. For Freshmen only: Cumulative GPA will be reviewed at the end of the spring semester. At the end of each semester, must earn a “C” or better in every course taken
5. Must maintain the academic program at time of admission into the CAFS major; (NOTE: The Scholar will only be permitted to change his or her major program, within CAFS, if this change will not delay his or her 4-year graduation.)
6. Must have validated (submitted verification documents) and completed FAFSA on file in FAMU’s Office of Financial Aid, prior to February 1st
7. Must earn 20 hours of community service at the end of each semester (must be documented in i-STRIKE via the Office of Student Activities)
8. Must participate in scholarship activities (CAFS Convocations, Professional Development Workshops, join MANRRS, etc.) 
9. Must visit the CAFS Scholarship Office weekly, and participate in study and tutorial sessions, as needed
10. Must use your FAMU e-mail, which is the official mode of electronic communication, for scholarship purposes, per Board of Trustees Regulation 5.003 (3) (a), (b), & (c)
11. Must establish social media accounts established by the Scholarship Office (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn), and follow the FAMU 1890 Scholars
12. Must not opt out of group communications account, established by the Scholarships Office, or your scholarship will terminate at the time you opt out   
13. Failure to comply with the above criteria or other policies of the 1890 Scholarships Program will result in the loss/termination of the Scholar’s scholarship

NOTE: ANY SCHOLARSHIP THAT IS LOST/TERMINATED WILL NOT BE REINSTATED, AT A LATER DATE.
