Center for International Agricultural Trade Development Research and Training
Welcome to the International Agriculture Unit. We are the arm of the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences responsible for leading the globalization of the college’s teaching, research, and outreach programs. We are pleased to have our faculty, students, staff, and other stakeholders engaged in taking our tripartite mission and strategic initiatives to 20 countries around the globe through international education, study abroad, internships, research, training, and other development assistance programs. We acknowledge and appreciate the support provided by our federal, state, local, and international partners. Our global network of partners and sponsors strengthen our capacity to maintain our service delivery at home and abroad, as we help build the next generation of globally prepared and engaged agriculturalists.
Be safe, keep well, and remain “RATTLER STRONG”!
Welcome to the CAFS International Agriculture unit. The unit includes the Office of International Agriculture Programs (OIAP) and the Center for International Agricultural Trade Development Research and Training (CIATDRT).

Mercy Corps is a global humanitarian relief and development organization operating in 40 countries. Recently, it launched a partnership with ten (10) Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including FAMU, to create internship opportunities in the international development and humanitarian sectors for students at HBCUs. Over the past year, Mercy Corps worked closely with these HBCUs to co-create this program, which is one piece of the organization’s broader diversity strategy and FAMU’s strategic efforts to provide exceptional student experiences. The Mercy Corps HBCU Pipeline internships are paid and are designed to reduce barriers to job opportunities, resources, and access.
The internships are offered each semester and are open to upper level (Junior & Senior) undergraduate, graduate students, or recent graduates (within the past 12 months) to gain experience with Mercy Corps in its mission areas. Students will apply to FAMU’s Office of International Agriculture and the top 2-3 finalists will be submitted to Mercy Corp for final selection. Mercy Corps awarded 17 internships to the first HBCU cohort; two (2) FAMU and fifteen (15) students from the other HBCUs are currently completing their fall 2020 internship assignments. The Mercy Corps-FAMU intern placements will include virtual, domestic, and global internship opportunities as outlined below:
